It’s hard to live, laugh, and love in life when your body is experiencing urinary incontinence from vaginal laxity. If you feel yourself leaking urine while exercising, coughing, sneezing, and even laughing, this could be a sign that your vaginal muscles are loosening due to childbirth, menopause, weight fluctuations, or hormonal imbalances.

Loosened muscles can put pressure or stress on your bladder causing urinary incontinence along with low libido. Thankfully, Dr. Axline provides an easy, non-surgical solution known as Viveve to repair vaginal laxity. This safe, effective and comfortable treatment targets the vaginal tissues to tighten the area, induce collagen regeneration, and improve sexual vitality.

Let’s Talk Vaginal Laxity

Though it is one of the most common and highly prevalent health issues faced by women, vaginal laxity is far too often overlooked and undertreated. Similar to facial sagging as a result of losing collagen as we age, the vaginal area also loses the collagen it needs for elasticity. Vaginal laxity occurs in women who have experienced a loss of collagen, menopause, multiple vaginal births, and an active sex life, among other medical conditions.

The symptoms of vaginal laxity may include:

  • Urinary incontinence
  • Vaginal dryness or a significant decrease in lubrication
  • The inability to experience orgasms
  • Insensitivity during sexual intercourse

If you are experiencing these symptoms, take comfort in knowing you are not alone in this. Most women experience some level of vaginal laxity. At Dr. Axline’s Wellness Clinic, we provide a safe and effective non-surgical solution known as Viveve to rebuild collagen and improve elasticity.

What Is Viveve?

Viveve is FDA-approved and internationally used in more than 50 countries for vaginal laxity, urinary incontinence, and improving sexual functions. The Viveve device uses Cryogen-Cooled Monopolar Radiofrequency (CMRF) technology to consistently and accurately deliver the right amount of heat to the underlying vaginal tissue for collagen regrowth, while gently cooling the surface tissue for protection.

The procedure and the recovery are painless. A Viveve appointment at Dr. Axline’s Wellness Clinic takes about 30 to 40 minutes, and you can return to your daily activities, pain-free.

How Does It Work?

For maximum comfort, the Viveve device uses a small probe about the size of your thumb and is applied to both external and internal vaginal tissue. While the device rotates, the probe or treatment tip delivers heat from the monopolar radiofrequency to the underlying soft tissue as the cryogen-cooling protects the surface for a completely painless treatment.

After the Viveve treatment, women typically begin to feel the results around 30 days and the full effect around 90 days. While each of our patients has her own set of results she wants to achieve with the process, most of our patients find they are satisfied after one to two sessions. We recommend that all of our patients reschedule a follow-up Viveve visit once every year or two to maintain their vaginal health.

Who Is a Candidate for the Viveve Treatment?

Any woman, 18 or older, struggling with stress urinary incontinence and has:

  • Decreased physical sensations or arousal
  • Tampons slipping out or not fitting snugly
  • A tough time reaching orgasm
  • Vaginal dryness or a loss of natural lubrication
  • Had a child
  • Experienced perimenopause

Clinical Trials Support Viveve

Many clinical trials have been held to study the results of Viveve.

The most notable is the VIVEVE I Trial, the largest randomized, double-blind, and sham-controlled study in the vaginal rejuvenation space consisting of 164 patients. The results of this study concluded that a single treatment of the Cryogen-Cooled Monopolar Radiofrequency Therapy was found to be safe and associated with both improved vaginal laxity and improved sexual function.
